One line, five regions

Walk the line

One itinerary follows the descent in the order it happened, across four countries. The other five go deep on a single region. Not a map of dots — an order to do things in, with the drive between them, what is publicly visible, what needs a key, and what this archive still has no photograph of.

Every other page here was written at a distance: a register read through a screen, a surname in an index, a book quoted in a footnote. These pages are for going. They assume a car, a week, and a willingness to knock on a door in a language you half speak.

Start with «The Line, end to end». The five regional itineraries were built one valley and one coast at a time, which is the right shape for research and the wrong shape for a descent — it put Gračišće in one walk and Senj in another, when they are the same family. The line walk puts them back in order and the regional ones become the deep-dives off it.

Each one ends with the same two lists — what to ask for, and what to photograph that we do not have. The second list is the honest one. It is where this archive is thin.
