Search the Archive
People, places, households, register entries, document plates, namesakes and the direct line — one box. Try a surname spelling, a village, a year, or a mother's maiden name.
Press / anywhere on the site to jump here. Two letters is enough to start.
Start typing. Or browse: try Fernasar, the maiden name that had been lost until this week.
What is indexed
Every person the archive can name — all of them, with their place, their years and whatever the archive knows about them — alongside every reconstructed household with its children, every register entry pulled from FamilySearch, every place with its Italian, Croatian and Latin names, every document plate with its caption, the namesakes, and each generation of the direct line. Searching a Latin form finds the Italian one, because both are in the index.
It also indexes the pages read by eye. The Vodnjan marriage register is in no index anywhere on earth; the people found in it are searchable here because this archive read the book and typed them in. Try Zambaletta, Birattan or tessitore.
What it will not do
It does not search the parish books themselves. Almost none of the Gračišće and Gologorica registers are indexed anywhere — see Parish Books for what survives on film and what has to be asked for by letter. The two most important pages in this archive were obtained that way, not found by searching.
