Pula
The see and the port at the foot of Istria — and the town a De Franceschi is called «da Pola» from, in 1619.
Carlo's own *L'Istria* lists Franceschi among the noble families of Pola «venuti da Capodistria» before the plague of 1631 — which makes Pula one of the two candidate parents for the southern Istrian clusters, the other being Koper itself.
The earliest dated record this archive holds in Istria names a man of this town rather than of the one he was buried in: **«ser Piero di Franceschi da Pola»**, buried at Rovinj on 27 May 1619.
Pula is also where the church paperwork of the whole south ran. The marriage dispensations entered in the Vodnjan register are issued by the **Ordinariate of Pola** — «dell'Ordinariato di Pola» — and that is the office to write to for what those registers only allude to.
