Rovinj
The town that holds this archive's earliest dated Istrian record, and the church where Carlo De Franceschi was married at his own bedside.
Two of the three oldest De Franceschi records this archive has in Istria are Rovinj burials of men who did not live here. **«Adì 27 Mago 1619 · morì ser Piero di Franceschi da Pola»** — carried into the town to be buried, with an offering of 24 lire on a page whose other entries run at 2, 6 and 12. And on 27 December **1728**, **«Ob.to di Matt.o de Franceschi da Dignano»**. A book of burial offerings catches whoever dies in the parish, which is why a register here names men of Pula and of Vodnjan.
The film also holds a Rovinj household across three generations — Giacomo → Vittorio, who married Domenica Moscarda → Piero Anto, baptised 1736 — and a Bona Defranceschi, daughter of Dominicus and Oliva Dorligurro, marrying in the 1840s: that is the Vodnjan household sending a daughter here.
And on **1 March 1852**, entry 31: **Carlo De Franceschi**, the historian, «Assessore presso quest'I. R. Corte di Giustizia», married Maria Michelcich **«al letto dello Sposo, per essere gravemente ammalato»** — at the bridegroom's bed, gravely ill, on banns dispensed that same day by the Imperial-Royal District Captaincy. He lived another forty-one years. Two years later the same film records the burial of «Julius, son of Carlo», born 1853, dead 13 February 1854.
