Senj
An Uskok garrison on the Habsburg Military Frontier — never Italian, unlike Istria.
Taken over by the Habsburgs in 1522 as a state-controlled Militärgrenze, and from the 1530s the base of the Uskoks, the refugee raiders who fought the Ottomans and Venice until an agreement between Habsburg and Venice expelled them in 1617. The Nehaj fortress was built by the Uskok captain Ivan Lenković in 1558.
Records for Senj fall to the State Archives in Rijeka, whose remit covers Primorje-Gorski Kotar plus the city of Senj. That inventory is not yet mapped.

The Kvarner gap is now partly closed. FamilySearch holds microfilm of the Senj parish registers 1734–1920 and of Sv. Juraj near Senj 1695–1868, filmed from the Croatian State Archives in Zagreb — plus an Austrian army field-hospital register for 1805–06. The DARI collection itself still has no published parish-level inventory.
