David asked to compare with daviddef.github.io/TheDefranceski/dna/ and take the best of both. That page is better than mine in four specific ways, and three of them transfer directly.

Add /dna — what two ethnicity tests say, and what they refuse to claim

David supplied the MyHeritage results for generation eight: Carmine Falco and Francesca Zampiello, ethnicity v2.5 plus Ancient Origins "Notable Individuals".

Fix a living-person date leak I introduced with the person graph

tools/build_people.py decided whether to redact a person's dates by reusing really_living() from build_living.py — including its ancestor test. That test belongs in build_living.py, which lists living RELATIVES and rightly excludes ancestors. Reusing it for REDACTION was wrong, because ancestry has nothing to do with whether someone is alive.

Person pages draw a real tree, from the registers and the tree merged

Clicking a name on the Ferrara page took you to Angelo Zampiello and showed one box: him, in his father's house, with no wife and no children — while the page you had just left named his wife and five of their children.

Fix the surname bug that filed Giuseppa Ferraro under her middle name

Found while building the source links for the Ferrara page: FERRARO is both a surname — the Zampiello maternal name — and the Italian word for a blacksmith. The register builder stripped trailing trade words blind, so it ate the surname and filed her under MARIA. Maria Rosa Ferraro went to ROSA, Antonio Ferraro to ANTONIO. The surname filter on /people was offering forenames.

Going after the family properly while Antenati was rate-limiting. Antenati's image server was 403 all morning, so this went through FAMILYSEARCH instead - a different host, and one the archive had barely used for Benevento.

CRISCI and RIVETTI pages — the two oldest maternal lines

David noticed the shape of a gap, not three separate oversights. This archive was built outward from the Falco surname, and the families that married INTO it were treated as context. Every wife in the recent spine was under-served:

The card grid was the worst view of the best data. This brings /people up to the treatment used on the de Franceschi archive's «Everyone» page: stat counts, a search box, filter chips (direct line, and the ten commonest surnames), and a real table with Name / Gen / Role / Household / Dates / Place, filtered live.

Method: a fifth thing to distrust — a name is not a person

Three hundred and thirty acts read end to end across 1840-1843 forced this: the same name belongs to several people at once, on one street, in one year, and the ages do not rescue you. Adds the Morgillo harvest from the three volumes read today. The table is published to make the opposite of a connection: none of these people reaches Angela Rosa Morgillo, and the point is that the surname was COMMON, so a Morgillo in a record proves nothing alone.

The 1842 act gives a Falco household on strada Camellara that the archive did not have. Recorded as a household with the naming-pattern lead stated AND refused as evidence: no act names Michele Falco's parents, so he is not placed in the line.

The 1827 priest is DON GIUSEPPE CIOFFI — settled by an act sixteen years later

On 4 December 1827 the register buried 'Don Giuseppe C—, 56, SACERDOTE, figlio di ANDREA —, POSSIDENTE, e di ORSOLA ZIMBARDO', and no magnification would separate Crisci from Cossi in that hand. This archive published the doubt rather than guessing.

1843: two more acts, and a near miss logged so nobody chases it twice

Atto 19 buries Anna Zimbardo, eighty, of strada Camellara, 'vedova di PASQUALE Cimmino, figlia di NICOLA Zimbardo e Rosa Cimmino'. Chiara Rivetti's Latin burial entry reads 'uxor quondam PASCHALIS Falco, filia quondam NICOLAI et Anna, aetatis suae annorum OCTOGINTA'. The 1818 volume an_ua14320 opens with a SECOND ORIGINAL of the twenty-two acts the 1817 volume carries at its back. Two clerks, two copies, and they do not agree in detail - which caught a mistake in this archive's own reading: the declarant at Maria Rivetti's death, 1 Jan 1818, is NUNZIO RIVETTI, 35, bracciale, of strada Camellara, not 'Luigi Rivetti, 75, of strada Annunziata'. 1817 deaths: the burial that settles generation four

RAFFAELE FALCO, son of Vincenzo Falco and Andreana Crisci, died at Arienzo on 28 OCTOBER 1817 at seven in the morning, aged about eighteen months. That is the child born 25 April 1816. The Raffaele born 10 May 1818 is therefore the one who lived, married Angela Rosa Morgillo and died in 1880.

1816 death register: sweep complete — Gioacchino Falco, and a Falco marriage

Act 76, 1 December 1816: the death of Crescenzo Rivetti, declared by GIOACCHINO FALCO, 36, and GIUSEPPE FALCO, 32, both massari di campagna of strada Camellara, both described as «parenti del defunto». The dead man is «marito di ANGELA FALCO».

Started the Arienzo death registers for 1816-1818 (an_ua14318-20; the sequence runs unbroken from 1809 = an_ua14311, verified rather than extrapolated). Their layout differs from the 1829-36 volumes - the deceased and BOTH parents run together mid-act - so the crop is recalibrated and recorded.

Write down the 1816 and 1817 rosters before they are lost, and publish what has been read

Asked to make sure nothing is lost, the honest finding was that the 1816 and 1817 sweeps existed only in the running conversation. No notes file had been written for 1816 at all, and 1817 had prose but no roster. If this session had ended, two full years of reading would have gone.

1816: a second Giuseppe Falco, and the Vigliotta married Falco twice

A family history that follows one surname is half a history. Every generation of this line is half somebody else's family, and the site had those families as names hanging off a Falco rather than as families.

Get the sweep rosters onto the site, not just into the notes

Asked whether everything found was reaching the site - Carlantonio Morgillo's age was the example - the answer was partly, and the honest part was no.

Asked whether every Falco in the MyHeritage tree and their relatives were represented, the answer was no, and data/myheritage-facts.tsv had been an empty header file since the project began - the tree was the baseline for this whole archive and its people were never captured.

Add the 1834 sweep's 88 read acts to the register

The 1834 death register was logged act by act in a table; the other seven years were read in full but written up selectively. tools/extract_sweep.py pulls that table into data/sweep-people.tsv and the register, so the people met while reading - neighbours, declarants, the families burying each other's children on strada Camellara - are listed rather than left in prose.

Record the 1818 birth sweep so far, and the volume map for Arienzo births

Antenati rate-limited mid-sweep. Committing what is read (images 2-7, twelve acts, no Falco) plus two things worth keeping regardless.

Fix two faults in the household trees

A red rectangle was being drawn round every spouse row. My single-cell modifier was called "one", and the stylesheet already has a global .one rule - a terracotta-bordered panel used elsewhere. Renamed to .solo.

Draw households as trees, and recast the direct line as a spine

Two presentation changes asked for, both modelled on the Defranceschi pages.

Add the register: all 2,194 named individuals, with links to their sources

The site was showing 45 people. The archive had found far more and left it in TSVs that never reached a page - in particular two Antenati name-index harvests, 1,087 and 1,042 rows, that had been sitting unused since the Valle Caudina sweep.

Fix the lines and rule diagrams: collided labels and missing spaces

Two real rendering faults, both mine.

Read the 1829 Arienzo death register: no Falco, and a claim that needs re-checking

1829 (an_ua14331, 65 images) read in full, 2 January to 29 December. The result is a null: not one Falco appears in the whole volume - not as a deceased, not as a parent, not as a declarant. It is the only such year of the eight now read.

Correct two errors introduced in the last commit

The home page said Matteo and Francesca's children's death acts named them "thirty years apart". They are four years apart - Rosa's in October 1830, Pasquale's in October 1834. Corrected.

Re-cut as the Falco of Arienzo; add the Lines and Under Whose Rule; declutter home

The framing was a Brisbane pedigree with the rest appended. It is now what the evidence supports: an archive of the Falco of Arienzo - a parish, a street, and the families on it - and of the one branch that reached Brisbane. The home page says so in its first sentence, and says that 41 of the 49 people named are not in the direct line.

Audit every image; find a war decoration filed as "a second portrait"

Asked whether the documents had actually been looked at, the answer was no. Every photograph plate had been captioned from its filename. The audit is written up in full in notes/plate-audit-2026-09-08.md; the headline is that four of them were not photographs at all.

Add "The wider family": the 36 people who are not in the direct line

The archive documents 39 people across 13 households and 54 register entries, and only 8 of them are in the direct line to Brisbane. The site did not say so anywhere. Everything collateral - the brothers and sisters who stayed, the Falco households never joined to the line - was buried inside the households page or the TSVs, while the front of the site read as a pedigree.

Make the generation spine honest about where the line stops

Every ring was drawn solid, including Matteo's - but Matteo is precisely the generation nothing joins upward. No record has been found naming his father. His ring is now open and the spine fades out above him, so the drawing shows the frontier instead of implying an unbroken chain.

Add a Documents page; bring the front page back in sync with the research

The archive's two strongest images - the register pages carrying Pasquale Falco's death act of 1834 and his grandson's of 1833 - were buried inside the Antenati page, and the thirteen family photographs inside the Australia page. Neither was reachable from the navigation, and the front page carried no image at all.

Read the 1814 civil marriage act from the Antenati images

Antenati's IIIF images are Cloudflare-blocked to direct fetch, but render when injected into a page on Antenati's own origin, and IIIF region syntax crops and magnifies them server-side. That made the hand legible.

Why the family left Arienzo: Forchia is an Annecchino town

681 Annecchino records harvested from the Benevento civil registers. They sort by town, and Forchia - where Carmine Falco was born in 1930 - is one of the two Annecchino strongholds.

Find the ship: Brisbane, 26 March 1964, per the Sydney from Naples

NAA: K269, 26 MAR 1964 SYDNEY - the incoming passenger list, digitised in 42 pages - names four Falcos on the voyage: Carmine, Francesca, Giuseppina aged eight, and an Antonio who appears in no other record here. He is almost certainly Giuseppina's brother, and this is the first document to place him.

Find Pasquale Falco's baptism; replace Agostino Falcone with Matteo Falco

The head of the line is no longer a guess. Arienzo baptisms, 24 October 1767: "infantem natum ex Mattheo Falco, ed Francisca Crisci ... qui nominatus est Paschalis" — in the collegiate church of Sant'Andrea, Terrae Argenti.
