What the registers say

  • death — 24 Aug 1842 , Arienzo, strada Camellara
“«è morto nella sua propria casa MATTEO FALCO D'ANNI DUE, nato in Arienzo» — died at ten at night on 24 August 1842, aged two, so born about 1840. HIS NAME IS THE QUESTION. Neapolitan custom named a first son for his father's father, and the name at the head of this line is MATTEO FALCO, who married Francesca Crisci. That is a reason to look for Michele among Matteo's sons. IT IS NOT EVIDENCE. A naming habit is not a record, and this archive does not build a generation out of one.”

Others of the same name

This parish repeats its names relentlessly — there are three Maria Falco and four Pasquale. These are different people, kept apart on purpose rather than merged into one.
