What the registers say

  • named — 1840–1843 , Arienzo, strada Camellara
“A contadino of STRADA CAMELLARA — the street of Pasquale Falco and Chiara Rivetti. He is one of the two men who report CHIARA RIVETTI'S DEATH on 13 September 1843. He declares on that street across four volumes, and his stated age is, after the first entry, the steadiest series in these registers: FORTY in 1840, FORTY-SEVEN in August 1842, FORTY-EIGHT in September 1843. In a register that gives Giuseppe Falco eleven different ages, this clerk got one right. HE IS A NEIGHBOUR. No act calls him kin to the Falco, and these registers write «parente» when they mean it.”
