The register

Every named individual this archive has found, from any source, with the source beside each one. This is the raw catch — not a family tree, and not all of it is this family.

716 entries for 543 distinct names, every one of them carrying a link to something — a person's dossier, or the record that names them. 243 come out of a document this archive has actually read. The other 473 come out of the family tree, which is a different kind of thing entirely, and the Source column says which is which on every row.

Read this before you read the list.
  • record means this archive opened the document and read the name in it: a Queensland death registration, a parish register transcript, a service dossier, a coroner's file, a surgeon's journal, a payroll, a newspaper. 243 entries. Not all of these people are relatives — the men who gave evidence at an inquest and the convicts on a transport are here because they are in the record, and leaving them out would be editing it.
  • family tree means what the family believes, not what a record proves. 473 entries, carried in from the MyHeritage export. Treat each one as a claim until it turns up somewhere else on this page with a source beside it.
  • above a graft is the same thing, worse. 98 of those 473 sit above one of the two joins this archive has tested and rejected — the D'Arcys of Hornby Castle and the Sneyds of Keele Hall. They are real historical people, mostly; they are simply not attached to this family by anything. Both grafts, set out in full →
  • Living people are not here at all. Not hidden, not gated — absent from the build. The rule withholds 2,034 people across the whole tree. How it works →
And here is the number this page exists to make impossible to miss. Only 34% of what follows rests on a document. The rest rests on somebody's tree — usually somebody else's. An archive that publishes the two in one list, in the same typeface, without saying which is which, is not being honest with you. What this one got wrong →

The same distinction is drawn on every person page. Each opens with a pedigree chart whose cards are bordered solid where a record writes the relationship down and dotted where only the tree asserts it. Of 473 charts, 19 contain a solid edge. The people →

Where these entries came from

Each source below was read directly. Where a search returned nothing, that is published as a result too rather than left silent.

  • Queensland Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages — 18 death registrations, each with the parents the register names.
  • FreeREG — Berkeley St Mary, Dursley St James and Cam St George, Gloucestershire. The Berkeley transcript stops in 1677, which is the whole difficulty.
  • National Archives of Australia, series B2455 and J34 — three service dossiers read page by page, and a pension file.
  • Australian War Memorial — the Wounded and Missing file for 5050 Sneyd, and a Military Medal recommendation.
  • Queensland State Archives — a coronial file read in full, an insolvency, an intestacy, three land dealings and two police staff files.
  • The National Archives, Kew — ADM 101/26/1, the surgeon's journal of the convict ship England, and PROB 11/1728/64.
  • Queensland Blue Books — the colony's civil establishment lists, 1870–1900.
  • Trove — six newspaper items, each linked to the article itself.
  • The family tree — a MyHeritage export, and the reason most of this page is a claim rather than a finding.
One entry has been deliberately left out. A Queensland State Archives item holds the 1922 photographic and criminal record of a man who shares this surname and is a collateral relative. It is public, it is catalogued, and this archive is not publishing it without the family's say-so. It is listed here as an item and not as a story. The rest of the queue →

The sibling archives keep the same page, built the same way. The Falco register ↗ · All six archives →
