Mile Kalanj and Marija, witnesses at Lučane (1894)

Witness at a baptism, 6 December 1894, Lučane, Brinje parish, Croatia — witnesses to the baptism of Marinović Manda, of Lučane - not in the tree.

The family tree has never heard of this person. Every other person page in this archive is a record the MyHeritage export holds. This one is not: it exists because the register was read at the page, and it is kept beside the tree rather than put into it. The tree is an export and this archive does not edit it. What the register says

Event
witness at a baptism
Date
6 December 1894
Place
Lučane, Brinje parish, Croatia
Citation
FamilySearch, Croatia Church Books 1516-1994, Brinje Matična knjiga rođenih 1888-1900 (DGS 005498262, waypoint 9R26-82S), image 274 (the shown frame is the one after 273; entry 143, Lučane, Marinović Manda, daughter of Marinović Ivan and Šakić(?) Marija; dates read at reduced zoom as born about 2 and registered about 6 December 1894), witness line read "KALANJ MILE i Marija" (the surname read with the usual doubt in this hand, the first pass wrote here that the mother of the child is not Kalanj; THAT WAS WRONG, see the correction at the end of this note). NOT IN THE TREE. A witness pair only. The given names are those of the couple who appear in 1899 as parents of Franc Kalanj at house 231 (Kalanj Mile x Vučetić Marija, this file): if the same pair, they were witnessing at a Lučane baptism five years before their own child's, which is a plausible, unconfirmed link and not a merge. Another sign that the people this register once read as 'Kalauj' are Kalanj kin. CORRECTED 5 OCTOBER 2026 ON THE READABLE-ZOOM RE-READ OF IMAGE 275 (right-hand page, second entry; page 153; the viewer frame is one lower): the child is MARINČIĆ MANOLE (the first pass wrote Marinović Manda), born 2 and registered 6 December 1894, of Lučane, daughter of MARINČIĆ IVAN and, in the mother's column, KALANJ MARIJA, both of Lučane, farmers (the first pass read the mother's surname as Šakić(?) and said it was not Kalanj; at close zoom it is plainly Kalanj). The informants "Kalanj Mile i Marija" therefore stand at the birth of a child whose mother is a Kalanj, which makes them very probably her parents or close kin - a stronger reading than the 'witness pair only' of the first note, but still an inference: the entry does not state the relationship. See the new row for Marija Kalanj, wife of Ivan Marinčić.

How they attach to the line

witnesses to the baptism of Marinović Manda, of Lučane - not in the tree

The relation is recorded in the archive's own words and names no position on the direct line, so there is nobody here to link to yet.
