The Blažević Archive
70 people, 9 generations, 31 walls

Our line, drawn

The whole of what this archive knows of Hedviga's ancestry, as one chart — nothing cut for space, so every place it stops is a place the line really stops.

The spine walks this line down in prose, generation by generation. This is the same line seen all at once, which answers a different question: not who came before whom, but how much of it is actually known.

Of the 70 people here, 50 rest on a record this archive has read. The other 20 are the family tree's word and are drawn lighter — they may well be right, and none of them has been tested. 31 branches simply end.

Nothing is hidden for space. Where the chart stops, the archive stops, and How Far Back sets out what each of those endings would take to get past.

Not every wall is the same kind of wall

The list under the chart used to say the same sentence about all 31 of them — no parents are recorded, and where the line goes next is not known. That is true of all of them and useful about none of them, because they are not one thing.

11 of the 31 are name problems, not research problems. Seven are women the tree gives a given name and no surname at all; two more wear their husband's surname, which is the tree's convention and not a record of what they were born; two are a bare surname with no given name, which asserts only what the child's own name already says. There is nothing to search for until a marriage entry or a child's baptism supplies the missing half.

more have no place recorded anywhere on the line — those walls are a place, not a name, and no register can be opened for them. 10 are properly identified people whose next document falls outside what is filmed; the notes say by how many years.

7 are worth an afternoon. Four of them are at Karlobag, the best-read parish here, whose film ranges have never once been checked — so whether the next step is reachable is not known, and finding out costs nothing but the sitting.

Krmpote-Vodice — out of rangeNot yet worked
No parents are recorded for Mateša Blažević, born 1750. The household was at Smokvica Krmpotska, whose registers are Krmpote-Vodice: baptisms 1879–1896, no marriages filmed, no deaths filmed. A baptism of 1750 falls 129 years before the filmed register begins. The tree records no place for this person. This household is put at Smokvica Krmpotska on the strength of their grandchild's birth — the tree's own words about the tree's own people, not a document.

No parents are recorded for Tereza Pećanić. The household was at Smokvica Krmpotska, whose registers are Krmpote-Vodice: baptisms 1879–1896, no marriages filmed, no deaths filmed. No year is recorded for this person or for the child below them, so there is nothing to test the film's range against. (The tree writes this place as Smokvica, Općina Smokvica, Dubrovačko-neretvanska županija, which is 400 km away and wrong.) The tree records no place for this person. This household is put at Smokvica Krmpotska on the strength of their child's birth — the tree's own words about the tree's own people, not a document.
Only a surnameNot yet worked
The tree gives the parent of Toma Žubrinić as a surname with no given name at all. That is a placeholder rather than a person: it asserts only what the child's own surname already says. The household was at Šumećica, whose registers are Otočac: baptisms 1834–1858, marriages 1859–1872, deaths 1780–1872. The marriage is the document to look for, not the baptism — it is what would supply the missing name. A marriage of about 1766 falls outside the filmed register, which runs 1859–1872. The tree records no place for this person. This household is put at Šumećica on the strength of their child's birth — the tree's own words about the tree's own people, not a document.

No parents are recorded for Marija Findrić, born 1780. The household was at Otočac, whose registers are Otočac: baptisms 1834–1858, marriages 1859–1872, deaths 1780–1872. A baptism of 1780 falls 54 years before the filmed register begins. The tree records no place for this person. This household is put at Otočac on the strength of their child's birth — the tree's own words about the tree's own people, not a document.

No parents are recorded for Vitus Sekula, born 1787. The household was at Otočac, whose registers are Otočac: baptisms 1834–1858, marriages 1859–1872, deaths 1780–1872. A baptism of 1787 falls 47 years before the filmed register begins. The tree records no place for this person. This household is put at Otočac on the strength of their grandchild's birth — the tree's own words about the tree's own people, not a document.

This archive has no surname for Maria — a given name and nothing else. The wall is not that her parents are unknown; it is that there is nothing to search for. Her family name would be written on her marriage to Vitus Sekula, and often on the baptism of a child where the priest gave the mother's house. The household was at Otočac, whose registers are Otočac: baptisms 1834–1858, marriages 1859–1872, deaths 1780–1872. The marriage is the document to look for, not the baptism — it is what would supply the missing name. A marriage of about 1807 falls outside the filmed register, which runs 1859–1872. A baptism of about 1788 falls 46 years before the filmed register begins. The tree records no place for this person. The tree gives the parent of Ana Shambul Marić as a surname with no given name at all. That is a placeholder rather than a person: it asserts only what the child's own surname already says. The household was at Otočac, whose registers are Otočac: baptisms 1834–1858, marriages 1859–1872, deaths 1780–1872. No year is recorded anywhere on this branch, so there is nothing to test the film's range against. The tree records no place for this person. This household is put at Otočac on the strength of their grandchild's birth — the tree's own words about the tree's own people, not a document. «Shambul» sits in the SURNAME field and the given name is empty — `1 NAME /Shambul Marić/` — so this was never a man called Shambul. His other two children, Mathias and Joannes, are plain Marić: a surname does not attach to one child of three, and a by-name does. The two sources on his daughter are both other people's trees rather than a page, and they disagree — one writes Šumbul, the other Shambul. So the surname to search is Marić, with Šumbul as the discriminator, the way Papa separates one Papić household and Smojver one Vukić. It is deliberately NOT in sources/bynames.psv, which holds only phrases read off a register.
Selce — out of rangeNot yet worked
No parents are recorded for Joannis Antić, born 1739. The household was at Selce, whose registers are Selce: baptisms 1778–1861, marriages 1790–1878, deaths 1790–1886. A baptism of 1739 falls 39 years before the filmed register begins. The tree records no place for this person. This household is put at Selce on the strength of their own death — the tree's own words about the tree's own people, not a document.

The household was at Selce, whose registers are Selce: baptisms 1778–1861, marriages 1790–1878, deaths 1790–1886. A baptism of about 1757 falls 21 years before the filmed register begins. The tree records no place for this person. The tree records no place for this person. This household is put at Selce on the strength of their child's death — the tree's own words about the tree's own people, not a document.
Karlobag — in rangeMore to come
No parents are recorded for Jacob Pilipic. The household was at Karlobag, whose registers are Karlobag: baptisms 1691–1861, marriages 1736–1861, deaths 1774–1861. A baptism of about 1741 falls inside that film. This archive has already read the death 1778, named on a child baptism 1768 for this person, and none of it names their own parents — the baptism is the document still unopened, and it is the one that would. A candidate, found 20 September 2026 and offered as one. The Karlobag index holds «Jakomo Pilipicha, 30 November 1739», father «Jakoma Pilipicha» — Jacob son of Jacob, at Karlobag, twenty-three months before the «about 1741» this archive estimates for ahnentafel 104. It is the only Pilipić baptism in the index before 1784 and the spelling that finds it is the Croatian one, Pilipicha, not the Pidepics and Pilleppics that earlier sittings tried. What it would give is his father's name, which would be ahnentafel 208. What is NOT established: that this Jakomo is ours rather than a cousin, and «about 1741» is itself an estimate rather than a date. The image is what would settle it — the entry will carry the mother and the house, and the index carries neither.
Karlobag — in rangeMore to come
No parents are recorded for Vicentius (Vicko) Luckinić. The household was at Karlobag, whose registers are Karlobag: baptisms 1691–1861, marriages 1736–1861, deaths 1774–1861. A baptism of about 1700 falls inside that film. This archive has already read the named on a child baptism 1725 for this person, and none of it names their own parents — the baptism is the document still unopened, and it is the one that would. The tree records no place for this person. This household is put at Karlobag on the strength of their child's birth — the tree's own words about the tree's own people, not a document. Their daughter is the anchor. Ahnentafel 105, Catta Luckinić, was born 30 March 1727 AT KARLOBAG to Vicentius Luckinić and Maria — that is in the tree, and it places this household without any inference. The index adds two children to it: Mikola, 9 December 1719 and Mare, 13 April 1725, both entered as «Vicka Luckinicha» with no mother named, eight years and two years before Catta. Same rare surname, same parish, same father's given name. They are recorded in `found.psv` as CANDIDATE siblings and not as proof — the entries name no mother, so nothing in them distinguishes one Vicko from another. Catta's own baptism of 1727 is not in the index: the whole Luckinić holding at Karlobag is seven entries, which is a measure of how partial the indexing is. His own baptism, about 1690, is earlier than any Karlobag entry the index carries.
Her husband's surnameNot yet worked
Maria Luckinić is entered under her husband's surname. That is the family tree's convention, not a record — nothing in this archive says what she was born, and the name on the chart is his. The household was at Karlobag, whose registers are Karlobag: baptisms 1691–1861, marriages 1736–1861, deaths 1774–1861. The marriage is the document to look for, not the baptism — it is what would supply the missing name. A marriage of about 1725 falls outside the filmed register, which runs 1736–1861. The tree records no place for this person. This household is put at Karlobag on the strength of their child's birth — the tree's own words about the tree's own people, not a document. She is in this archive under her husband's surname, which is the tree's convention and not a record of her name — the 1719 and 1725 entries that name her husband as Vicka Luckinicha name no mother at all, so they do not supply it either. The document that would is her marriage to Vicentius, about 1715 and inside Karlobag Vjenčani 1736–1861 only if she married later than the tree implies — otherwise it is earlier than the filmed book and out of reach from here.
Karlobag — in rangeMore to come
No parents are recorded for Josiph Smojver Vukić, born 1731. The household was at Karlobag, whose registers are Karlobag: baptisms 1691–1861, marriages 1736–1861, deaths 1774–1861. A baptism of 1731 falls inside that film. This archive has already read the death 1776, named on a child baptism 1754 for this person, and none of it names their own parents — the baptism is the document still unopened, and it is the one that would. The tree records no place for this person. This household is put at Karlobag on the strength of their own death — the tree's own words about the tree's own people, not a document.
Smiljan — no year to testNot yet worked
No parents are recorded for Simoni Pekass (Pekkas). The household was at Smiljan, whose registers are Smiljan: baptisms 1834–1857, marriages 1834–1859, deaths 1834–1858. No year is recorded for this person or for the child below them, so there is nothing to test the film's range against. The Karlobag record index holds a Šimun Pekasa household exactly where this man should be: Joseip 1 March 1705, Margarita 28 October 1719, Katarina 19 June 1734 (mother Stoja), Perina 29 June 1738 (mother MARE). Mare is Mara — ahnentafel 427 — so this is the best candidate for this couple, in the right parish, in the right window, with four documented children who would be ahnentafel 213's brothers and sisters. It is a candidate and not a proof. Antonia's own baptism is not in the index under any spelling tried, and the household names TWO wives that are not the same woman, so which of them ahnentafel 213 belongs to is exactly what is not yet known. Note also that the tree places this man at Smiljan; the index places the household at Karlobag from 1705.
Smiljan — no year to testNot yet worked
No parents are recorded for Mara (Maria) Pekass. The household was at Smiljan, whose registers are Smiljan: baptisms 1834–1857, marriages 1834–1859, deaths 1834–1858. No year is recorded for this person or for the child below them, so there is nothing to test the film's range against. The tree records no place for this person. This household is put at Smiljan on the strength of their spouse's birth — the tree's own words about the tree's own people, not a document. Named as Mare, wife of Šimun Pekasa, on the Karlobag baptism of their daughter Perina, 29 June 1738 — the only wife in that household whose name matches this archive's Mara. The 1734 baptism of Katarina names a different wife, Stoja, so the identification depends on which marriage ahnentafel 213 was born into. See notes/karlobag-is-indexed.md.
Karlobag — in rangeMore to come
No parents are recorded for Angelo Bacchi. The household was at Karlobag, whose registers are Karlobag: baptisms 1691–1861, marriages 1736–1861, deaths 1774–1861. A baptism of about 1752 falls inside that film. This archive has already read the named on a child baptism 1779 for this person, and none of it names their own parents — the baptism is the document still unopened, and it is the one that would. The tree records no place for this person. This household is put at Karlobag on the strength of their grandchild's death — the tree's own words about the tree's own people, not a document. Named on the Karlobag baptism of his son Caetano Antonÿ, 12 January 1779 — the entry reads «ex Angelo et Catharina Bacchi», so it names this man, his wife and his son together. Read 10 September 2026 and recorded in `sources/readings.psv` under the son; found again in the Karlobag record index on the 20th as `1:1:QKMX-BWCR`, where the surname is written BECHI. The index also holds a second child, Antonü Bechi, 11 September 1780, whom this archive does not have. His OWN baptism, about 1752, is still unopened — and it is the one that would name his parents.
No surnameNot yet worked
This archive has no surname for Catharina — a given name and nothing else. The wall is not that her parents are unknown; it is that there is nothing to search for. Her family name would be written on her marriage to Angelo Bacchi, and often on the baptism of a child where the priest gave the mother's house. The household was at Karlobag, whose registers are Karlobag: baptisms 1691–1861, marriages 1736–1861, deaths 1774–1861. The marriage is the document to look for, not the baptism — a surname you do not have cannot be searched for, and a marriage entry supplies it. A marriage of about 1777 falls inside the filmed register. This archive has already read the named on a child baptism 1779 for her; the marriage is the one still unopened. The tree records no place for this person. This household is put at Karlobag on the strength of their grandchild's death — the tree's own words about the tree's own people, not a document. Named as Catharina on the Karlobag baptism of her son Caetano, 12 January 1779 — «ex Angelo et Catharina Bacchi». That is a document, and it places her at Karlobag; it does not give her a surname, which is what this wall is short of. The marriage is still the entry to find, about 1777 and inside Karlobag Vjenčani 1736–1861, because a marriage entry supplies the maiden name a baptism does not.

No parents are recorded for Georgi Uroda. The household was at Karlobag, whose registers are Karlobag: baptisms 1691–1861, marriages 1736–1861, deaths 1774–1861. A baptism of about 1750 falls inside that film. This archive has already read the marriage of child 1807, death 1791, named on a child baptism 1777, named on a child baptism 1780 for this person, and none of it names their own parents — the baptism is the document still unopened, and it is the one that would. The tree records no place for this person. This household is put at Karlobag on the strength of their own death — the tree's own words about the tree's own people, not a document.

A baptism of 1717 falls inside that film. This archive has already read the death 1783 for this person, and none of it names their own parents — the baptism is the document still unopened, and it is the one that would. The tree records no place for this person. This household is put at Karlobag on the strength of their own death — the tree's own words about the tree's own people, not a document. The Karlobag index does NOT reach him, and the reason is spelling rather than coverage. It renders this surname Gergacs, Gergocz, Geraecs and Gergich, and the Karlobag households it holds under those forms are Antonio × Francisca (1777–1788) and Michael × Lucia (1786–1789) — a generation too late for a man born in 1717. found.psv already carries Antonius Gergacs, named on his father's record. The index removes the need to find the page; it does not remove the need to know how the name was written.

No parents are recorded for Pauli Tomljanović. The household was at Montani Stanište, whose registers are unknown: baptisms not checked, marriages not checked, deaths not checked. What years those films cover has never been checked, so whether the next document is reachable is not known — and checking it is an afternoon's work, not a trip. A stanište is a herders' settlement, not a parish, and the catalogue has no entry for this one — searched 15 September 2026 for both «Stanište» and «Montani», with nothing in Croatia returned. Its events will have been written into a neighbouring parish's book, and which one is NOT established here: the Tomljanovići in this archive are Karlobag, which makes Karlobag the first place to look and not an answer. What is firm is his daughter: ahnentafel 111, Lucia, died 19 September 1809, which falls inside Karlobag Umrli 1804–1861 and would name her father and her house.

This archive has no surname for Lucia "Luca" — a given name and nothing else. The wall is not that her parents are unknown; it is that there is nothing to search for. Her family name would be written on her marriage to Joannis "Ivan" Perpić, and often on the baptism of a child where the priest gave the mother's house. The household was at Krivi Put, whose registers are Krivi Put: baptisms 1847–1884, marriages 1871–1894, deaths 1878–1934. The marriage is the document to look for, not the baptism — it is what would supply the missing name. A marriage of about 1857 falls outside the filmed register, which runs 1871–1894.

The families this line marries into are on the trees. Hedviga has a page of her own, and so does her mother.
