Read out of a register, and not in the family tree
Stipe Kalanj, son of Mijo Kalanj and Krnarić Manda
Baptism, 18 November 1899, Brinje, Croatia — son of Kalanj Mijo and Krnarić Manda, of Brinje house 249 - the first child on record of that marriage - not in the tree.
The family tree has never heard of this person. Every other
person page in this archive is a record the MyHeritage export holds. This one is not: it exists
because the register was read at the page, and it is kept beside the tree rather than
put into it. The tree is an export and this archive does not edit it.

- Date
- 18 November 1899

- Citation
- FamilySearch, Croatia Church Books 1516-1994, Brinje Matična knjiga rođenih (third item on the same film as DGS 005498262, waypoint 9R26-82S, entries numbering within calendar year 1899), image 483, entry no. 137 - "KALANJ STIPE", male, born 18 and registered 20 November 1899, of Brinje house 249, son of KALANJ MIJO and KRNARIĆ MANDA. Witnesses Vučetić Stipe i KALANJ LUCE, matičar Vučetić Stipe. Later marginal notes of 1982-83 record the child's own later civil events (not fully read). NOT IN THE TREE. THE CHILD OF A MARRIAGE ALREADY IN THIS FILE: Mijo Kalanj, widower, 53, of Brinje house 249, married Krnarić Manole (Manoš), spinster, 23, daughter of Krnarić Joso of house 168, on 15 February 1892 (marriage book, image 566, this file) - the same two parents' names, the same house, seven years on. Mijo would be about 60 at this birth; the file's earlier note gives him as born about 1838, so he is an old father but not an impossible one. TWO THINGS FOLLOW. First, the house number 249 is also where this archive logged a Kalauj Jure and Vučetić Ove/Manole in 1892 (image 171) as a distinct near-miss family: a house that holds a Kalanj bachelor of 55 in 1893 and a Kalanj baby in 1899 also holds a 'Kalauj' household in between, which is a point in favour of reading that household as Kalanj, and is recorded here as such a point and not as a reclassification. Second, the witness KALANJ LUCE is a Kalanj woman not otherwise known to this file, probably a kinswoman of Mijo. NOT merged with any other Kalanj household. RE-READ AT CLOSE ZOOM ON 5 OCTOBER 2026 (image 483, left-hand page, first entry; page 156): the mother's given name is written MANOLE, not Manda (the marriage book names the bride Manoš/Manda, the earlier 1892 birth Manole: all spellings of one woman are plausible, none is certain), the house number reads 249, and the margin carries two later civil notes of 1982 and 1983. The informants line reads 'Vučetić Stipe i Kalanj Luca'.
