Avelino LERENA Fernandez (son of Sancho)
THE HEAD OF THE LERENA TRAIBEL BRANCH, named at last on 14 September 2026. Husband of AMBROSIA TRAIBEL and father of Josefa Lerena Traibel, born 1851. This archive has referred to the Lerena Traibel since its first week without ever placing Avelino. HE IS SANCHO'S SON - SETTLED 14 September 2026 ON A PARISH ACT. An Avelino Lerena stood godfather at the Catedral de Montevideo in 1833 to a child of Justa Pastora Lerena, Sancho's daughter, which is suggestive and no more. No record found here names Avelino's own parents. AND HE IS NAMED IN A PARISH ACT, not only in a death index: the baptisms of his granddaughters at Union on 8 March 1880 give "abuelos maternos AVELINO y AMBROSIA TRAIBEL". A SECOND CHILD FOUND, 14 September 2026: ALFREDO, born about 1857, married at the Catedral Basilica on 3 February 1892 - "hijo legitimo de Don AVELINO LORENA y Dona Ambrosia Traibel". So Avelino and Ambrosia had at least JOSEFA (1851) and ALFREDO (c.1857), and probably MERCEDES, who stood godmother in 1880. TWO BAPTISMS OF 12 MARCH 1858 AT SAN FRANCISCO DE ASIS name the paternal grandparents of his children as SANCHO LERENA and MARIA FERNANDEZ - twice, on one page. So the whole LERENA TRAIBEL line descends from Sancho, and several of its members were already floating unattached in this register: Mercedes Micaela and Clorinda in the dispensation table, and JUAN ARTURO - the man this archive conflated with another Arturo in its first week and had to retract. And the godparents at those two fonts were LAVALLEJA - Justiniano, Constantino and Ana. AND HE NOW HAS DATES, 14 September 2026: BORN 1815, DIED 22 AUGUST 1890 at Montevideo, registered the next day. The registration names his parents Sancho and Maria Fernandez - an INDEPENDENT attestation of the parentage the 1858 baptisms settled, and the first record in this archive to say when Avelino lived. IT ALSO EXPLAINS SOMETHING THE ARCHIVE HAD ONLY NOTED AS ODD. At his son Alfredo's wedding in February 1892 the witness was AMBROSIA TRAIBEL, the mother, where a father would be expected. Avelino had been dead sixteen months. Three records - the 1858 fonts, this registration, and the 1892 marriage - now lock together in one order. The registration spells him LEVENA, an eighth spelling. The image has not been opened, so the dates are SECONDARY; the parentage is PRIMARY from 1858. AND AN ELDEST CHILD, found 14 September 2026 - by correcting one of this archive's own rows. ALEJANDRO, born 29 May 1843, baptised at La Mauricia on 7 January 1846, "hijo legitimo de Avelino Serena y Ambrosia Traibel" - a boy this archive had wrongly recorded as a sixth child of his brother Luis. So Avelino and Ambrosia were married before May 1843, and their known children run ALEJANDRO (1843), JOSEFA (1851), ALFREDO JUSTINIANO and ANA ROSARIO (1858), probably MERCEDES. And the act shows the two brothers standing as godparents for each other's children at the same font on the same morning - Luis and Justiniana for Alejandro, while Luis's own two were christened in the entries just above. AND HE DID NOT MARRY TWICE - DECIDED 20 September 2026. The LERENA VILLADEMOROS branch found on 16 September was left as two readings: a second marriage of his, or a son of his. It is a son. Two parish acts give AVELINO EDUARDO LERENA's own father as Avelino with Ambrosia Traibel on the record, so Avelino Eduardo joins Alejandro, Josefa, Ana Rosario, Alfredo Justiniano and Mercedes as a child of this marriage, and Celedonia Villademoros is a daughter-in-law. NINE CHILDREN, 21 September 2026, where this row listed six. A parent-pair search on Avelino with Ambrosia added four: PEDRO ALBERTO YSABELINO (b. 16 March 1852, and he is the ALBERTO who died in 1921), JUAN ARTURO (b. 16 February 1861), MERCEDES MICAELA (b. 8 May 1863) - who is very likely the Mercedes who stood godmother in 1880 - and MARIA ADELINA, who married Carlos Alberto Fein and died in 1946. With Alejandro, Josefa, Ana Rosario, Alfredo Justiniano and Avelino Eduardo that is nine, and the births run from 1843 to about 1865 - twenty-two years, which is one marriage and not two. A THIRD INDEPENDENT ACT NAMES HIS PARENTS: the 1852 Aguada baptism gives the paternal grandparents as Sancho Lerena and Maria Fernandez, after the two of 1858 and the christening of 1866. AND THE 1852 ACTS CALL HIM AN ORIENTAL: 'orientales los padres' at the Aguada, which agrees with a birth at Montevideo in 1815. The same page then calls SANCHO oriental too, and that one this archive does not accept - see the working log. TEN, WITHIN THE HOUR. ANDRES, born 16 March 1857, was read off the second opening of the same certificate book. And his sons appear as godfathers to his daughters: Avelino Eduardo stood for Andres in 1861, written 'AVELINO LERENA (HIJO)', and an AMBROSIO LERENA - almost certainly the Carlos Ambrosio of the family chart - stood for Maria Adelina in 1865. The births now run 1843, 1851, 1852, 1855, 1856, 1857, 1861, 1863, 1865 with Avelino Eduardo earlier still, which is a single marriage producing a child about every two years for twenty-two years. SEVEN OF HIS CHILDREN LODGED BAPTISMAL CERTIFICATES TOGETHER IN NOVEMBER 1896, and this archive thinks it knows why. Certificates 147 to 153 of one Montevideo book, consecutive, drawn from FOUR different parishes - the Aguada, San Agustin de la Union, San Francisco de Asis and the Cordon - and registered within days of each other: Mercedes Micaela, Josefina, Pedro Alberto Ysabelino, Ana Rosario, Juan Arturo, Andres and Maria Adelina. Grown brothers and sisters do not each happen to want proof of baptism in the same week. That is what proving FILIATION looks like, and their father had died on 22 August 1890. Offered as a hypothesis with a named test: the Montevideo succession and notarial records of 1896. See data/1852-aguada-union-certificates.tsv. AND THE PARISH WAS WRONG, CORRECTED 21 September 2026 OFF THE PLATE. This archive placed these 1880 baptisms at the UNION, which is what the index's place field says. The act itself reads 'con licencia del infrascripto Cura Parroco DE ESTA BASILICA MENOR Y CATEDRAL DE MONTEVIDEO, bautice solemnemente EN ELLA a Maria Carlota'. They were baptised in the CATEDRAL BASILICA, not at the Union.

His son ALBERTO's death is now on a record, not a tree. Montevideo civil registration, certificate 246, death 1 March 1921: "Alberto Lerena, 69, born about 1852, father AVELINO LERENA, mother AMBROSIA TREIBEL, wife Maria Ines Larriera." The archive held the Lerena Traibel children on FamilySearch tree IDs; this is the first of them with a register behind it.
