Antenati — the Carnia registers

The Napoleonic and Austrian civil registers for Mione and Ovaro, held by the Archivio di Stato di Udine and photographed by the Portale Antenati, with Mieli next door where the numbering put it. Every line below opens the book at its first image.

Antenati (Portale Antenati, Archivio di Stato di Udine) — the Napoleonic and Austrian civil registers for the Carnia comuni this family came out of. Every volume here is an ark that opens the book at page one; the portal has no name index for any of them. Every entry below was fetched one at a time from its own catalogue page.

Why this page exists at all
Antenati publishes no index of names. There is no search box that will find a De Franceschi in these books; there is only the book, and the reader, and the hand. A volume here is a thing to be turned page by page, which is why the archive counts a register as read only when someone has gone through it, and why so few of them are.

Every volume below was checked one by one. An earlier version of this page assumed the portal numbers its arks one comune per block, and named series spans from that assumption. It does not: an_ua667510 to 667513 are Mieli, in a different comune altogether, sitting immediately before Mione in the numbering. Each ark here now carries how its identity is known.

Mione

Six series. The marriages, the banns and the deaths each run nine volumes — 1806, then 1808 to 1815. The births run four and stop at 1810. Both sets of indices stop at 1812, and only one volume of death allegati survives, for 1809. 1807 is absent from every Mione series.

Ovaro

Only the marriages are digitised — but they run 1806 to 1815 without a gap, and that includes 1807. The allegati are missing 1806 and 1809, and the indices stop at 1811. Ovaro having 1807 while Mione does not is the single most useful thing on this page: it means the year survives in the comune system, and Mione's volume is lost rather than never kept.

Mieli

Not a family place — it turned up because its arks sit immediately before Mione's in the portal's numbering, and finding it there is what proved the numbering is not one comune per block.
