The Defranceschi Archive
154 volumes Pazin has not digitised · 38 of them filmed by nobody else either

The hundred and fifty-four

Every register in Pazin's own list marked «not digitised» — and, for each, whether anybody else has filmed it. Most of them somebody has. The ones nobody has are the short list worth a letter.

Why this list is different from everything else here
Every other source this archive uses says what it has. Pazin is the only one that says what it hasn't. Its register list carries a digitised column, and 154 of its entries say no.

That single column is worth more than the rest of the catalogue put together, because it converts an absence into an address. FamilySearch not holding a book tells you nothing — it might be at Pazin, it might be lost, it might never have existed. Pazin saying «not digitised» tells you the book is real, where it is, and what it is called.

42 of the 154 are in parishes on our own line — Gologorica, Gračišće, Pazin, Pićan, Svetvinčenat.

And a sentence this page carried for a day that was not true
This page opened by saying these were «books that exist, on a shelf in Istria, and cannot be read from anywhere else». For 116 of the 154, that is wrong.

Pazin's column means «not digitised by Pazin». It says nothing about anybody else, and checked against FamilySearch's films of the same parish, record type and years, 116 of these volumes are already photographed — often inside a longer film that swallows several of Pazin's shelfmarks at once. Barban's Births 1716–1750, 1750–1781 and 1781–1816 are three Pazin volumes and one FamilySearch reel.

38 are left. Those are the ones where two catalogues agree that nothing has been photographed, and they are the only ones worth a letter.

The overlap is inferred, not proved. Same parish, same record type, overlapping years is a strong match and not an identity — a parish copy and a diocesan copy can both exist. But it is more than enough to stop calling all 154 unreachable.

The 38 nobody has filmed

Pazin has not digitised these and no film of that parish, record type and period turns up anywhere else this archive can reach. This is the list worth posting.

Who to write to, and for how many

One letter per holder, not one per book. The archive holds most of them; the rest are scattered across parish offices that hold two, three or four each.
