The family

No family chart is drawn for this person, and that is a statement about the data rather than about them. This archive records kin against a name — the tree on a name page gathers everyone who shares it, so it may hold one person's dates beside another's wife. Rather than hand a reader a family that might not be this person's, the chart is drawn only where the relationship is recorded person by person, which today means the direct line.

(doc for the record; the identification with this archive's families is not made — see below.) ⚠ Gologorica is the origin parish of the direct line, and on 6 April 1941 — the day the Axis invaded Yugoslavia — he was still living in it. He was thirty-two. He was dead at Dachau three years and three months later. ⚠ This archive does not yet say who he was to the rest of it. His father was also Anton. The direct line's Anton Rudolf Defranceski was born at Klenovica in 1890 and died in 1943 — a different man, and the coast rather than the hill. Whether this Anton descends from the Gologorica household the archive already holds is a question for the Gračišće and Gologorica registers, not for a victims' index. (open.) Found 29 September 2026, on a database this archive had named as an unopened route two weeks earlier and not opened. --- 29 September 2026 — Arolsen was searched for him, and the man who looked like him is somebody else. Item 160 asked the obvious question: Arolsen holds the Dachau registers, so a man who died in that camp on a stated date should be in them. He is not — and proving that took disproving a near-perfect false match. What Arolsen offers at first look. A person record: «DEFRANCESCHI, ANTONIO — 31 January 1909 — prisoner 8165», with a personal file at Natzweiler. Same surname, same birth year, the Nazi camp system. It would have been very easy to write him up as this man. ⚠ The file is a cross-reference card and nothing else. Ref 01012902 008.453: an ITS Ersatzkarte reading «DEFRANCESCHI, Antonio 31.1.1909 — see: DEFRANCESCO», recto only, verso blank. The index entry is the archive's own name-authority work, not a document about a person. Following it to the real file settles it, and settles it against. «DEFRANCESCO, ANTONIO, born 31.1.1909 at MONCALVO» — Moncalvo is in Piedmont, two hundred miles from Istria, and the birthplace is written on four separate documents: the Dachau file card (T/D 400385, prisoner 98542/64488), the «Sch.It.» arrival card of 28 February 1944, the transfer letter, and the death report. > «Abgang durch Tod!» — Konzentrationslager Dachau, Häftlingskrankenbau, 7 February 1945. «Defrancesco Antonio, Block 30, Nr. 98542, geboren 31.1.09 zu Moncalvo … Gestorben: 7. Februar 1945 um 6.45 Uhr», diagnosis myocarditis. So the two men differ in every respect that matters.

They share a birth year and a camp. That is all. (doc for the disproof.) ⚠ One detail of the Arolsen man is worth recording even though he is not ours, because it is the thing that made him look right: his committing authority was Sipo Trieste, and the Dachau entry register gives his nationality as «ITALIAN, YUGOSLAVIAN» — markers of the Adriatic Littoral, not of Piedmont. This archive notes the oddity and does not resolve it; the birthplace is written four times and governs. So Anton Defrančeški of Gologorica is not in Arolsen under any spelling tested — `Defranceschi` (38 people), `Defranceski` (79), `Defrancesco` (8), and none born 1909 at an Istrian place. The Belgrade census remains the only record of him this archive has found.

No one else in this archive carries this name.
