the direct line, argued on the line

This chart is the direct line and nothing else. Brothers and sisters are not drawn here: this archive records kin against a NAME rather than against a person, so the family on a name page may belong to several different people of that name. Where it is drawn it is read from the direct line, person by person.

What the archive knows

Historian, Politician, Magistrate --- 29 September 2026 — his own tablet, photographed and read. > CARLO de FRANCESCHI > STORIOGRAFO DELL'ISTRIA > STRENUO ASSERTORE DELL'ITALIANITÀ DELLA SUA TERRA > MDCCCIX — MDCCCXCIII Read 29 September 2026 from David's photographs of the family tomb at Gologorica. (doc.) «Historiographer of Istria, strenuous asserter of the Italian character of his land», 1809–1893 — cut in Roman numerals, in Italian, in a village whose Croatian neighbours were at that moment arguing the opposite case in print. The quarrel is on the Gologorica page, and this inscription is one side of it, in stone. The tomb is a walled monument — a cross above, the arms in the pediment, his tablet in the centre between fluted pilasters in pink marble, and a family tablet to either side. Three of his children and his wife are on those side tablets, and all four died before he did. --- 29 September 2026 — the official roll, and the seat he was elected for. > Defranceschi · Karl · k.k. Rathsprotokollist · Pisino · Küstenland *The list of the 422 deputies of the first Austrian Reichstag, 1848–49, with name, character, electoral district and land. (doc.) ⚠ This archive had him «in Vienna» in 1848 from a newspaper attacking him — the Journal des Österreichischen Lloyd of 7 September 1848, which called him a libeller and named his post as «Rathsprotokollist des Landrechts zu Rovigno». The roll confirms the office and adds what the attack never gave: the constituency. He sat for PISINO — Pazin, the county town of the district his village stands in. ⚠ And it quietly corrects something else. This archive carried a note that «by 1848 a Salomon sat in the parliament at Vienna» — the family Giovanni Battista married into. There is no Salomon in the roll at all. The seat the family remembered was real, and it was his. On /corrections/.
