He was a twin, and the register proves it. Image 116 of
Births 1709–1764 (film 005497885), read on the plate 23 September 2026:
«baptizavit duos infantulos geminos natos hodie mane a Jacobo de Franceschi, et Anzola ejus legitima uxore, quibus fuit positum nomen, uni […] alteri Antonij».
The index knew his name and not his brother; the plate knew his brother and not his name. His twin is Antonio di Jacobo de Franceschi, twin 1737.
(doc for the twinship; the forename is the index's.)
«Casparg, of Jacobo De Franceschi and Anzola, 26 December 1737» — Giacomo's son by his second wife.
⚠ The 1773 widow is not his. See Gasparo Defranceschi, husband of Maria (fl. 1744) —
«Maria uxor Caspari Defranceschi» stands godmother on
5 May 1744, when this Gasparo was six years old and the other candidate eleven.
A third and older Gasparo was married by 1744, and the 1773 widow Maria is his. The paragraph below weighed two boys against each other and is left standing as the reasoning it was.
A Gasparo de Franceschi was dead before 30 March 1773. On that day the marriage register records
«Joannes Volge, et Maria relicta q.m Gasparis de Franceschi» — his widow remarrying, with a dispensation to marry in Lent and all three banns waived.
He would have been thirty-five — but he is not the only candidate. The castle also holds
Domenico Gasparo, son of Giacomo, baptised 9 August 1732, who was still alive in February 1764, standing godfather as
«D. Gasparo de Franceschi figlio di Giacomo», and who would have been forty-one in 1773.
Two men of the name, one generation, either of whom fits. The 1773 entry gives no father and no age, so the death is recorded as a possibility against both and as neither man's fact.
(inf; the death itself is doc.) See
/searched/.
He is named as Giacomo's son, twice, in 1762. «Gasparo figlio di M.o Giacomo de Franceschi» stands godfather on
1 August and
15 December 1762 — both magnified. At twenty-four he is exactly the age this dossier's 1737 baptism would predict, and the two records corroborate each other across twenty-five years.
(inf, and the firmest thing on this page.)
It also removes a phantom. Entries of 1751–1761 naming a
«Gasparo De Franceschi» as godfather, and a
«Pasqua moglie di Gasparo de Franceschi» as godmother, had been read here as a second household beside Giacomo's. They are the same house.

28 September 2026 — he is not the Gasparo of the marriage register.
A «Gasparo de Franceschi» witnesses three marriages at this castle — 6 November 1762, 9 July 1766 and 13 August 1766 — and the third names his father: «Gaspare de Franceschi q.m Ant.o ex hoc Castro», film 005497886, frame 55. His father was Antonio.
This man's father was Jacobo, named in his own baptism entry,
so he is excluded. (doc for the exclusion — it turns on a patronymic in the record, not on an estimate of age.) The appearances are filed with
Gasparo Defranceschi, husband of Maria.
