This chart is the direct line and nothing else. Brothers and sisters are not drawn here: this archive records kin against a NAME rather than against a person, so the family on a name page may belong to several different people of that name. Where it is drawn it is read from the direct line, person by person.

What the archive knows

5 June 1744, at the baptism of a foundling. «Petrus filius natus a parentibus ignotis, baptizatus fuit a me infrascripto. Patrini ad Sacrum fontem fuerunt, Victorij Defranceschi, et Euphemia vidua Georgi Bratolich.» Magnified and read letter by letter. This is not the Vittorio this archive already carries. Vittorio de Franceschi, son of Antonio was born about 1758 and first witnesses in 1773. A man standing godfather in 1744 was an adult then — born about 1723 at the very latest, and more likely around 1715. They are two men, fourteen years and a generation apart, and the name repeats because Istrian households repeated names. (doc for the appearance; the birth window is inferred from the office he is holding.) He is very probably the grandfather the later Vittorio is named for. The castle's line of the name runs Antonio → Vittorio → Antonio on this archive's existing evidence; a Vittorio active in 1744 sits exactly where a grandfather would. (inf, and no more than that — no entry joins them.) Film 005497885, image 137 — Births 1709–1764 of Svetvinčenat, read on the plate 23 September 2026. In no index anywhere. He has a household, and it is on the page behind the slip. 13 June 1745: «Antonia filia Victorij Defranceschi, et Dominica ejus legitima Uxoris amborum ex hac Parochia, nata die 12 currentis» — Antonia di Vittorio Defranceschi 1745. His wife is Dominica, and both of them are «of this parish», so neither is an incomer. (doc.) This is what separates him from the later Vittorio beyond doubt: a man with a baptised child in 1745 is not a man born about 1758. Film 005497885, image 141. A fourth child, 4 October 1749: «Maria filia Victorij Defranceschi, et Dominica ejus legitima uxoris, amborum ex hac Parochia, nata die 3 currentis» — Maria di Vittorio Defranceschi (1749). The household runs 1745 to 1749, four children, both parents «of this parish» throughout. (doc.) Film 005497885, images 151–162, read on the plate 27 September 2026. 28 September 2026 — his wife now has a page of her own: Dominica de Franceschi, wife of Vittorio (fl. 1745–1749), named with him in all four of their children's baptisms, including the twins of February 1748 — one of whom carries her name. --- 28 September 2026 — and the same «Vittorio Franceschi» of 29 April 1782 may be him. Witness at the wedding of Zorzi Bratulich and Elena Zulioni, frame 90, written «Vittorio Franceschi» — without the «De», because the parish had a new archpriest, D. Paolo Cossaich. The act gives no patronymic, so it fits Vittorio son of Antonio equally well. Recorded on both pages, claimed on neither. (doc for the act; no identification.) And the «Vittorio de Franceschi» who witnesses on 21 February 1784 — at the remarriage of Antonia née de Franceschi's widower, frame 96 — may equally be him. No patronymic; recorded on both pages, claimed on neither. (doc for the act.)
