What the archive knows

Carta 76 verso is open. «Battistina Figliola Legitima del S.r Gio: Battista de Franceschi e di Maria jugali, nato li 18 sudetto» — born 18 November 1731, baptised 23 November 1731 by D. Piero Antonio Dall'Orto, godmother «D. Franceschina moglie del S.r Mattio Stankovich». Two things change from the index. It dated her «23 Xbre» — December; the leaf says Novembre. And it gave no mother; the leaf gives Maria, who is Gio Battista's second wife, not the Anzoletta of his earlier children. Read off the leaf, 21 September 2026 — film 005497885, carta 76 verso. (doc) ⚠ 27 September 2026 — a possible second father, unresolved. A godmother on 11 March 1751 was read on the plate as «Batistina filia q.m Caspari Defranceschi», and another «Batistina Defranceschi» stands on 12 February 1752. If the first is this woman, her father was Caspar and dead by March 1751 — not the «S.r Gio: Battista» of the baptism above. The pull towards one woman is real: Caspar's wife is attested six times as Maria, and Maria is this Battistina's mother. The pull against it is that her own baptism entry, read carefully, says Gio: Battista. No merge, no split, no new person. The 1751 frame was magnified once and the working copy has since been lost twice to a failing disk, so the reading cannot be re-checked today. It is recorded as a thing to look at again — against the possibility that this archive holds one woman under two fathers, or two women under one name. Film 005497885, images 151–162, read on the plate 27 September 2026.

No family is drawn for this name, and no record stands behind it. This archive has not placed it in a household and holds no indexed entry for it — the name reached this project through a chart, a narrative source or the family tree, and everything it does hold is below. The Register is where a record would appear if one turned up.
Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

This person has not been written up in an essay yet — most often read straight off a register page that no index anywhere contains. What is known is at the top, and the pages linked above are where the finding sits.

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
