What the archive knows

Wife of Pietro de Franceschi, and the woman whose name untangled a knot. 25 July 1738 she bears a daughter. «baptizavit unam infantulam natam 25 currentis a Petro de Franceschi, et Jacoba ejus legitima uxore ambobus ex hac Parochia, cui positum fuit nomen Anna Euphemia» — Anna Euphemia, baptised 27 July. Film 005497885, images 115–121. (doc.) And she stands at other people's fonts as «uxor Petri Defranceschi» — 16 February 1742 (image 130) and 29 June 1743 (image 134), both read at magnification. ⚠ Why she matters beyond her own household. On 7 September 1738 the register writes «Jacoba uxor Jacobi de Franceschi». Six weeks earlier she is Pietro's wife in a full parental entry. So either the parish held two Jacobas, or — far likelier — a clerk writing «Jacoba uxor Jacobi» was pulled by the echo of her own name. This archive counted her among «the three wives of Jacobo» for a day before the 1742 and 1743 godmother lines put her back where she belongs. One of the three was never his. See the method note. Born about 1715 — estimated from her daughter's baptism.

No family is drawn for this name, and no record stands behind it. This archive has not placed it in a household and holds no indexed entry for it — the name reached this project through a chart, a narrative source or the family tree, and everything it does hold is below. The Register is where a record would appear if one turned up.
Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

This person has not been written up in an essay yet — most often read straight off a register page that no index anywhere contains. What is known is at the top, and the pages linked above are where the finding sits.

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
