the direct line, argued on the line

This chart is the direct line and nothing else. Brothers and sisters are not drawn here: this archive records kin against a NAME rather than against a person, so the family on a name page may belong to several different people of that name. Where it is drawn it is read from the direct line, person by person.

One relationship on this chart was never date-tested. This archive refuses a relative whose years do not fit — more than six out for a child, outside twelve to sixty for a parent. Where one side has no year at all that test cannot run, and the link is drawn on the name. It is shown because most people in the early registers carry no year, and refusing them would empty the chart of the centuries this archive exists to show. It is counted here because a line nothing tested is a weaker claim than a line that passed, and the chart cannot tell them apart.

What the archive knows

A daughter of Matteo Defranceschi that this archive did not know it had — and her sister's husband stood witness at her wedding. 17 November 1773, Svetvinčenat: «Marc'Antonius Jacomini filius Andreæ, Parenzensis, et Fusca filia q. Mathiæ de Franceschi, Parochiana hujus Ecclesiæ, dispensatis a denunciationibus, per verba de presenti Mat[rimonio] juncti per me D. Michaele Luciani ex commissione Parochi, addita B[enedictio]ne. Testes D. Antonius de Franceschi, ac Mathias Santalezza.» — film 005497886, frame 66, read at 2×. (doc for the act.) Her father is dead — «q. Mathiæ» — and the banns were dispensed entirely. ⚠ Why she is almost certainly Matteo's daughter, and why «almost». The act names no mother and no age. But the second witness is «Mathias Santalezza» — and on 9 February 1766 Elena, daughter of the late Mattio de Franceschi, married Mattio Santalezza of the Albona territory. A Santalezza standing at the wedding of another «filia q. Mathiæ de Franceschi» is the bride's brother-in-law, which is exactly who a family puts there. (inf, and strong: the same surname, the same parish, the same dead father, and a witness who is already married into the household.) So Matteo and Francisca had at least three daughters — Helena (1742), Irena (1752) and Fusca — and Fusca's baptism has not been found. She must be born before about 1758 to marry in 1773, which puts her inside the 1709–1764 volume this archive has read in parts. She is not in it yet, and that is worth saying plainly rather than quietly estimating a year. Her husband is an outsider of a familiar kind. Marc'Antonio Jacomini, son of Andrea, of Parenzo — Poreč — like Elena's Santalezza from Albona and Nicolò Corva «dà Cargna» two months later. The castle's daughters married in from the whole province. Born about 1755 — estimated from the marriage alone, and the page carries no birth year as fact.

No one else in this archive carries this name.
