the direct line, argued on the line

This chart is the direct line and nothing else. Brothers and sisters are not drawn here: this archive records kin against a NAME rather than against a person, so the family on a name page may belong to several different people of that name. Where it is drawn it is read from the direct line, person by person.

What the archive knows

The man who married the first Defranceschi bride this archive has found. (doc.) He is an incomer. Born in the territory of Albona (Labin), resident in the district of Svetvinčenat about twelve years, and admitted on a letter of credit the parish had to accept before he could marry here — the register says so explicitly. His father Michiel was already dead. The banns were cut from three to two by the Vicar Capitular of Parenzo, and the two were read on the same day. A second Santalezza marries into the parish the same year — «Josephus Santalezza q.m Gregorij de Territorio Albone», 28 November 1766, to Agatha Obrovaz. Whether they are brothers the register does not say. Born about 1740 — estimated. --- 28 September 2026 — «Mathias Santalezza» stands witness at his sister-in-law's wedding. 17 November 1773: Fusca de Franceschi, another daughter of the late Mattia de Franceschi, marries Marc'Antonio Jacomini of Parenzo, and the witnesses are «D. Antonius de Franceschi, ac Mathias Santalezza». Film 005497886, frame 66. (doc for the appearance.) That the witness is this man is inference, not statement — the act gives him no patronymic and no parish. But «Mathias» is «Mattio», the parish is the one he married into seven years earlier, and the bride is his wife's sister. (inf — and it is the same inference, run the other way, that ties Fusca to this household at all.)
