The family

No family chart is drawn for this person, and that is a statement about the data rather than about them. This archive records kin against a name — the tree on a name page gathers everyone who shares it, so it may hold one person's dates beside another's wife. Rather than hand a reader a family that might not be this person's, the chart is drawn only where the relationship is recorded person by person, which today means the direct line.

What the archive knows

Sixth of the eleven children of Antonio DeFranceschi and Maria Valhart, and the only one of them still in the ground at Gračišće. The stone, photographed by David and read here at full resolution: > F. DE FRANCESCHI — MARFAN — VIRGINIJA ✱ 30. III. 1895 ✝ 28. XII. 1981 (doc.) The American reunion chart of 2012 gives «VIRGINIA (3/30/1895)» — the same day, month and year, written down in California a hundred and seventeen years after it happened. The stone gives what the chart could not: she died 28 December 1981, aged eighty-six. ⚠ 29 September 2026 — that death date had been published on the eleven since the plot was first photographed, and it had never reached this record, which carried `d = null`. A second photograph is what exposed it. The rule is the archive's own: a finding is not done until it is in every file that asserts it. She married Giovanni Marfan — Ivan in Croatian, and the stone beside hers gives his dates — and she is the reason the two families are buried together. She was the niece of Josip Defranceschi, who took this archive's own line down to Crikvenica in 1890, and therefore the first cousin of Anton Rudolf. One half of the family went to the Kvarner, Germany, South Africa and Australia; the other to New York, Buenos Aires and Tuscany. She stayed, and was still receiving her American cousins in the family house in the 1970s.
