What the archive knows

Married at Svetvinčenat on 10 June 1772 — the first wedding of the name found in the parish's marriage register, which no one had opened before this archive did. > «Anno Domini 1772, 10 Junij. Giacobus filius Giacobi de Franceschi, et Nicolina filia Nicolai Teserati, juncti sunt per verba de presenti per me D. Martinum Luciani ex comissione Parochi, tribus premissis denunciationibus, testibus D.no Michaele Luciani et Vicentio Vemir alijsque pluribus, addita benedictione.» He appears seven months earlier as a witness, on 23 November 1771, where the clerk is more careful and writes «Jacobo q. Jacobi de Franceschi» — so his father was already dead. A man marrying in 1772 was most likely born in the 1740s, which is exactly the stretch the parish's baptism index does not reach. No baptism of his has been found and he is merged with nobody. (doc for the marriage; the birth is inferred and the identification open.) The bride's surname is the one word on the page this reading will not guarantee — Teserati, possibly Teseveti. A candidate for who he was. The baptism register has a Giacomo Battista, son of Giacomo Defranceschi and Pascasia, born 19 August 1753 — eighteen at the time of this wedding, and eighteen when his father died. The fit is good and it is not claimed, because the same register shows a second, older «Jacobus filius Jacobi Defranceschi» as a godfather in May 1754, so there were already two men of the forename in the same generation. (inf.) See Giacomo Battista de Franceschi (b. 1753). --- 28 September 2026 — a second witnessing, two days after the first, and the bride now has a page. This page records him as a witness on 23 November 1771. He witnesses again on 25 November 1771, at the marriage of Michael son of Mattia Bulcich and Elena Milovan: «addita Benedictione. Testibus Jacobo q. Jacobi de Fran-/ceschi, et Vincentio Vemir». Film 005497886, frame 62, both entries read at 2.2×. (doc.) Twice in one week the parish asked the same young man to stand. He marries seven months later. The marriage act was re-read at 2.2× on the same day and the transcription above holds, with one caveat sharpened: the bride's surname reads closest to Tes[s]ereti. She now has a page — Nicolina Teserati (m. 1772) — which carries the doubt rather than hiding it.

No family is drawn for this name. The archive holds 5 households under it, and none of their dates do not fit this person: Gasparo De Franceschi × Antonia (1706) · Giacomo de Franceschi × Pascasia (1743–1759) · Giacomo de Franceschi × Anzola (1737–1737) · Giacomo de Franceschi × Nicolina Teserati (1773–1778) · Giacomo de Franceschi (husband of Francisca Marcario) × Francisca Marcario (1743–1753). A shared forename is not a family.
The same name, written another way

This archive holds 5 other pages under what Say Your Name reconciles as the same given name in another language — a Latin register, a Venetian clerk, a Croatian village, a Hungarian office. They are not merged and none of them is claimed to be this person: a shared name is not a shared identity, and the archive will not join one to the other by machine. It is here so that a reader looking for a man the records called Josephus can see where they wrote him Josip.

Giacomo De Franceschi · Giacomo Defranceschi · Giacomo de Franceschi (d. bef. 1771) · Jacobus Defranceschi · Jacobus de Franceschi

Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

…Anzola bore the 1737 twins and died, that Francisca followed from 1743, and that «the two women do not overlap». They overlap, and the proof was already in this archive when the claim was written. households.json has carried h107 Giacomo de Franceschi × Pascasia, four children 1750–1759, read off the same volume at images 155, 163, 169 and 179, since long before this session opened the film. …no Defranceschi child of any Antonio in it, which is a real result and a wide one: it moves the question from where in this volume to was he baptised in this parish at all. The same frames handed over a different household almost complete. Giacomo de Franceschi and Pascasia turn up as parents in 1750, 1753, 1756 and 1759 — four children, three forenames, one of them lost to smeared ink. None of that was being looked for. A page-by-page read collects everything on the page, and the entries you were not hunting…

…two days this archive read Gasparo and Giacomo de Franceschi as two households at Svetvinčenat, because both stand godparent through the 1750s and both have a wife named in the entries. Then one line of 1762 — «Gasparo figlio di M.o Giacomo de Franceschi» — collapsed them into a father and his grown son, and a second instance four months later confirmed it. The lesson is about what godparent entries can and cannot carry. Dozens of them establish that two forenames are active in a parish at once.…

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
