What the archive knows

«Die 25 Martij 1750. Victoria filia legitima Jacobi Defranceschi, ac Pascasia ejus legitima uxoris, amborum ex hac Parochia, nata hodie, baptizata est a R.do Joanne Stancovich. Patrini fuerunt Paulus Venier, ac Euphemia uxor Natalis Zanzevin.» — born and baptised the same day, 25 March 1750. Magnified. She is not a new person. She is a name filled into a gap the archive already had. [h107] has carried this child since long before, as «[forename not read] de Franceschi, 25 Mar 1750» — the date right, the forename unread. The plate supplies it. That is the second time in this volume the archive has held the record and lacked the word, after the 1737 twin whom the index named Gasparo and the plate could not. Adding her as a new person would have duplicated a child the archive already held, which is what checking first prevented. (doc.) Film 005497885, images 151–162 — Births 1709–1764 of Svetvinčenat, read on the plate 27 September 2026. In no index anywhere.

No family is drawn for this name, and no record stands behind it. This archive has not placed it in a household and holds no indexed entry for it — the name reached this project through a chart, a narrative source or the family tree, and everything it does hold is below. The Register is where a record would appear if one turned up.
The same name, written another way

This archive holds 2 other pages under what Say Your Name reconciles as the same given name in another language — a Latin register, a Venetian clerk, a Croatian village, a Hungarian office. They are not merged and none of them is claimed to be this person: a shared name is not a shared identity, and the archive will not join one to the other by machine. It is here so that a reader looking for a man the records called Josephus can see where they wrote him Josip.

Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

No prose mention yet

This person has not been written up in an essay yet — most often read straight off a register page that no index anywhere contains. What is known is at the top, and the pages linked above are where the finding sits.

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
