What the archive knows

«Die 20 Xbris [1743] … Patrini fuerunt, D.us Jacobus Zuecha, necnon Antonia filia q.m Joannis Baptistæ De-/:franceschi.» — magnified and read letter by letter. She is named by her dead father, which is how the register identifies an unmarried woman, so in December 1743 she is grown and not yet married. That puts her birth about 1720, and no later than about 1727. (doc for the appearance; the birth window is inferred from the office and the wording.) ⚠ Her father is not the Carnic Joannes Baptista. «q.m» — quondam, the late — but Joannes Baptista de Franceschi Ex Cargna 1742 is standing godfather at this same font in 1744 and again in 1745, alive. They are two men of one forename, which by now is the ordinary condition of this parish rather than a surprise. (inf.) Film 005497885, image 136 — Births 1709–1764 of Svetvinčenat, read on the plate 23 September 2026. In no index anywhere. She has a sister. 17 October 1746: «Anna filia defuncti Baptistæ Defranceschi» — Anna di Joannes Baptista Defranceschi (fl. 1746), named in the same formula, by the same dead father, three years later. (inf for the sisterhood; doc for each appearance.) And a brother. 17 September 1749: «Faustino filio q.m Joannis Baptistæ Defranceschi» — Faustino di Joannes Baptista Defranceschi (fl. 1749). Three of the late Battista's children now stand in this register, across six years, and not one of them has a baptism in it. (inf for the sibling group.)

No family is drawn for this name. The archive holds 1 household under it, and its dates do not fit this person: Gasparo De Franceschi × Antonia (1692–1706). A shared forename is not a family.
The same name, written another way

This archive holds 2 other pages under what Say Your Name reconciles as the same given name in another language — a Latin register, a Venetian clerk, a Croatian village, a Hungarian office. They are not merged and none of them is claimed to be this person: a shared name is not a shared identity, and the archive will not join one to the other by machine. It is here so that a reader looking for a man the records called Josephus can see where they wrote him Josip.

Antonia di Jacobo Defranceschi (1747) · Antonia di Vittorio Defranceschi (1745)

Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

This person has not been written up in an essay yet — most often read straight off a register page that no index anywhere contains. What is known is at the top, and the pages linked above are where the finding sits.

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
