What the archive knows

Twin brother of Lucia di Vittorio Defranceschi, twin 1748, born in the night of 9–10 February 1748 to Vittorio Defranceschi and Dominica, both «ex hac Parochia», and baptised the same day. His own godparents were D.us Jacobus Zuecha, surgeon, and Joannes Jedreicich; his sister had Joannes Baptista Miceij ex Castro and Michaelis Valentich. (doc.) He is named for his mother, which the parish does often enough to be worth noticing and never enough to rely on. Film 005497885, images 148–153 — Births 1709–1764 of Svetvinčenat, read on the plate 23 September 2026. In no index anywhere. --- 28 September 2026 — he marries, and his father stands witness. 10 June 1771, Svetvinčenat: «Dominicus de Franceschi, dispensatis denuntiationibus, Matrimo. junctus est cum Victoria Trecento … Testibus Marco […] ac Victorio de Franceschi, alijsq.» — film 005497886, frame 61. (doc for the act.) He would be twenty-three, born in the night of 9–10 February 1748. And the second witness is a Victorio de Franceschi — which reads naturally as his father Vittorio, standing at his son's wedding. ⚠ Both halves of that are inference. The act gives the groom no father, no age and no parish of origin. The archive holds one other Dominico of the name old enough to marry in 1771 — Domenico Gasparo, baptised 1732, who would be thirty-nine — and one other Victorio, Vittorio son of Antonio, who would be about sixteen and young for a witness. The reading offered here is the likeliest of the four combinations and is not the only one.* (inf.) His wife now has a page: Victoria Trecento (m. 1771). --- 28 September 2026 — he is a widower by 1779, and he remarries. (doc.) Three things in one line. · «Ved.o p.mi voti» — widower of first vows. So Victoria Trecento, whom he married on 10 June 1771, died between 1771 and January 1779. No year can be printed; Svetvinčenat's deaths before 1859 are on no film this archive can reach. · «M.ro» — Maestro. A master craftsman, the second of this family to be styled so at the castle after Gasparo in 1762. The register does not say the craft. · His second wife is Fosca Placich, of the parish of Šimuni. ⚠ And that settles a question this archive was about to get wrong. The baptism register of April 1780 gives godparents «Dominicus Defranceschi, et Fosca Uxor ejus» — and this archive holds a Fusca de Franceschi who married a Jacomini of Parenzo in 1773. They are not the same woman. The 1780 Fosca is Fosca Placich, married to Domenico fifteen months earlier. Two Foscas in one parish in one decade, and only the marriage register tells them apart.** He witnesses four weddings on one day — 29 November 1777, each time beside Simon Manzoni — which is where Antonio had stood for the four years before.

No family is drawn for this name, and no record stands behind it. This archive has not placed it in a household and holds no indexed entry for it — the name reached this project through a chart, a narrative source or the family tree, and everything it does hold is below. The Register is where a record would appear if one turned up.
Identity here is by name, not by resolved individual. Where two people of one name appear in this archive they share this page, and it is for the reader to keep them apart — the surrounding text usually makes it obvious. Nothing here is new evidence; it is the same evidence, brought together.

This person has not been written up in an essay yet — most often read straight off a register page that no index anywhere contains. What is known is at the top, and the pages linked above are where the finding sits.

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
