Vittorio de Franceschi (son of Antonio)
Everything this archive holds under this name, gathered from every page of the site.
The first father-and-son pair of the name this archive can document at Svetvinčenat. At the wedding of Michael Sarcovich and Maria Crisman on 4 February 1773 the witnesses are entered as «Jo: Sain, et Victorio de Franceschi filio Antonij». Nothing else is said of him — no age, no trade, no wife. What the entry is worth is the word filio: it ties him to Antonio de Franceschi, witness 1773, who was standing witness at the same altar six other times that year. (doc.) A probable identification, left open. This archive carries a Vittorio Defranceschi, 1758–1812, the only Vittorio at the castle, known from his burial. He would have been fifteen in February 1773 — young, though «filio Antonij» is precisely how a clerk distinguishes a young man from his father. The two are not merged. (inf.) The identification is no longer open, and the evidence was in this archive's own files. `burials.json` carries: Vitorio Defranceschi, born 1758, died and buried 8 November 1812, aged 54, Svetvinčenat, kin: Antonio. The 1773 register says «filio Antonij»; the 1812 burial says kin: Antonio. Two independent records thirty-nine years apart give the same man of the same parish the same father. (doc.) A third thing points the same way. His own children are in the same file — Antonia (1804–1808), Giovanni Pietro (1809), Antonio (1811), Gioanni Maria (d. 1813). In a parish that names the first son for the paternal grandfather, a Vittorio who calls a son Antonio is a Vittorio whose father was Antonio. (inf.) His baptism has not been found, and the search is bounded. Images 171–181 of the baptism register cover 1756 to 1760 continuously and hold no Defranceschi child of any Antonio — and 1758 is inside that stretch. The volume's own index stops around 1736 and cannot help. Images 155–170 (1750–1756) and 182–196 (1761–1763) are still unread. (doc, for the negative.) He becomes a father himself. The FamilySearch index carries «Maria Matthia De Franceschi, 3 September 1784, parents Victorii De Franceschi & Euphemię» — Vittorio at twenty-six, with a wife Euphemia, and a daughter who carries his mother's name, Matthia. (index; the act has not yet been read on the page.) And he has a sister. Franca de Franceschi (b. 1769) was baptised 9 December 1769 as «figlia di D.no Ant.o De Franceschi» — eleven years his junior. (inf, on a shared father's name, parish and decade.) A second «filius Antonij», nine years after the first. Frame 98, 20 September 1782: «Patrini qui susceperunt fuere Victorius filius Antonii de Franceschi, et Fosca Vxor Dominici Defranceschi». Magnified. Two independent register entries, 1773 and 1782, give him the same father in the same words — and the 1812 burial's `kin: Antonio` makes three. (doc.) By 1784 he needs no father to identify him. Frame 103, 8 May 1784: «Patrini fuere Victorivs de Franceschi, et Constantia Vxor Antonij Fabri» — godfather to Helena, daughter of Matthaeus and Justina Millovan, with no filius attached. At about twenty-six he is a man the clerk names on his own account. (doc.) His wife is named on the page, not just in an index. Frame 110, 22 August 1785: «Patrini fuere Antonius Radocovich, et Evphemia Vxor Victoris de Franceschi» — magnified. Until this line, «Vittorio × Euphemia» rested entirely on the FamilySearch index of his daughter Maria Matthia's 1784 baptism. The register now says it in its own hand. (doc.) See Euphemia de Franceschi 1783. And he is on these pages constantly by the mid-1780s: godfather on 30 July 1785 («Victorivs de Franceschi, et Helena Vxor Dni Benedicti Fiornzas») and again on 13 December 1785 alongside Fosca («Victorivs de Franceschi, et Fusca Vxor Dominici de Franceschi»), both magnified. At about twenty-seven he has taken over the role his father held a decade earlier. «Victorius filius Antonii de Franceschi» — a third time, in 1787. Frame 119, 30 June 1787, godfather to Joanna daughter of Michael and Catharina Duchenez, alongside «Jacoba uxor Matthei Bergamo». Magnified. The father-and-son link now rests on four independent records spanning thirty-nine years: the marriage-witness line of 4 February 1773, the baptisms of 20 September 1782 and 30 June 1787, and the burial of 8 November 1812 with its `kin: Antonio`. (doc.) He stands at the font throughout the 1780s — 8 May 1784, 30 July and 13 December 1785, 8 March 1786, 4 May and 30 November 1787, twice in March 1788, 26 December 1788, 6 September 1789, 5 August 1790, 15 December 1790. The whole 1764–1791 volume has now been read opening by opening, and across it Vittorio is the single most frequently named man of the surname. (doc.) --- 28 September 2026 — «Vittorio Franceschi», witness, 29 April 1782. «…qual esposero alla mia presenza, di Vittorio Franceschi, Sig.r Francesco Fabris, e molti altri» — the marriage of Zorzi Bratulich q.o Vittorio to Elena figlia del q. Franc.o Zulioni, film 005497886, frame 90, read at 2.2×. (doc for the act.) ⚠ The register drops the «De». The new archpriest, D. Paolo Cossaich, writes the family as plain «Franceschi» where D. Antonio Massalini had written «Defranceschi» for twenty years. The name did not change; the clerk did — which is the single most common way a family disappears from an index. ⚠ And this page cannot say whether it is you or the elder Vittorio. The act gives no patronymic. Two men of the name were alive at the castle in these years, and the entry chooses neither. It is recorded on both pages and claimed on neither. (The act is doc; the identification is not made.) --- 28 September 2026 — his wedding, and his father's title. — film 005497886, frame 93, read at 2.2×. (doc.) Four things this act settles. · It names his father outright — «figlio di Capo Antonio de Franceschi». Until now this page's «son of Antonio» rested on the 1784 baptism; here the marriage says it. · It names his wife's family: Eufemia is a Bergamo, daughter of Mattio Bergamo. ⚠ And the two houses already knew each other: a «D.no Mattio Bergamo» stood witness at Antonia Defranceschi's wedding on 7 January 1779, four years before this one. (The witnessing is doc; that he is the same Mattio is inf.) · They did not marry at home. The act was taken in the church of the B.V. degli Angeli at Parenzo, under a dispensation from the banns and from the closed season — and the witnesses come from Parenzo and Ližnjan, not from the castle. A wedding out of the parish, in a hurry, in Lent — the register gives the dispensation and not the reason. · Their daughter follows. Maria Matthia is baptised 3 September 1784, eighteen months after. And again, 21 February 1784 — witness at the remarriage of Gio: Batta Steffanutto, «nativo della Carnia», widower of Antonia née de Franceschi; frame 96. The act gives no patronymic, so the elder Vittorio fits it equally, and it is recorded on both pages and claimed on neither. (doc for the act.)

This archive holds 9 other pages under what Say Your Name reconciles as the same given name in another language — a Latin register, a Venetian clerk, a Croatian village, a Hungarian office. They are not merged and none of them is claimed to be this person: a shared name is not a shared identity, and the archive will not join one to the other by machine. It is here so that a reader looking for a man the records called Josephus can see where they wrote him Josip.

A dossier is every mention of a name anywhere in this archive's data, gathered automatically and linked back to the page it appears on, with what the archive knows about the person set out at the top. Identity here is by NAME, not by resolved individual: where two people share a name they share a dossier, and the archive says so rather than guessing. Rebuilt from the roster, so every person the archive can name has a page — including the ones read straight off a register that no index anywhere contains.
